S.T.A.R. Academy nominated for national grant program | Community Spirit

Sponsored by The Clorox Company, The Power A Bright Future program is giving you a chance to make a difference and win a grant for a school to give students the opportunity to thrive by exploring, creating and playing! S.T.A.R. Academy in Memphis has been nominated.

"S.T.A.R. Academy is now ranked #8 in the "Explore" category (out of a total of 2500 schools)...There are seven (7) $50,000 grants up for grabs (7 different categories) and each nominated school can move up by having people text a vote for them and/or online vote for them, once every 24-hr period," said the school's Social Media Coordinator Tecia Marshall.

Academy: We are a college preparatory elementary charter school that strives to holistically prepare students for college entry and completion, so this grant would enable us to fund additional Character Development programs where students will receive instruction that focuses on developing determination, perseverance, respect for self & others, compassion, and accountability. We desire to develop character traits in students that will help them with college acceptance and to persevere through college graduation. We would also have an opportunity to increase the "Service Learning" efforts of the school so the students can complete service projects with non-profits throughout the Memphis community and the world. Not only do many colleges require service learning hours for admittance, service learning creates a feeling of self-worth and empowerment that is valuable to humanity.
