Father shoots 13-year-old son

MEMPHIS, TN- (WMC-TV) – A 13-year-old boy is expected to recover after he was shot in the leg Monday night. Now his father is on the run after witnesses told officers he was the one who pulled the trigger.

Victor Boyd, Jr., was shot inside his Frayser home.

"I seen him hit the floor," said K.D. Stackz. "He crawled to where we was at and there was a trail of blood."

Another adult objected after Boyd, Sr., hit one of his children "kind of hard but in a playing manner," according to a police report.

Boyd, Sr., left, but returned a short while later and approached the other adult again.

And asked: "so you tell me I can't hit my kids?"

Relatives say Boyd, Sr., was wearing a hoodie, kept his hands in the pocket and fired two shots without even taking the gun out.

Boyd, Jr., was caught in the crossfire.

"He didn't deserve to be shot," Stackz said. "He ain't even got nothing to do with the situation."

Car theft ring broken up after police shooting

MEMPHIS, TN- (WMC-TV) – Memphis police shot and killed a 20-year-old man who was behind the wheel of a stolen car last Friday in Raleigh and investigators say the shooting was an auto theft ring's final chapter.

"When the officers got out of the car, two of the suspects jumped into one car and attempted to run over the officers and that's when shots were fired," said Karen Rudolph, of the Memphis Police Department.

Officers were first called to the Gardenwood Apartments because someone complained of prowlers in the neighborhood.

Jermie McCraven, who was killed after he tried to run over the officers, was connected to several auto thefts across the region over a six month period, according to police.

They say McCraven's crime stretched from Bytheville, AR, to Frasier and other areas across Memphis and the Mid-South.

Investigators say the group stole vehicles, rims and anything else of value inside cars and trucks.

Teen chased by dog while owner fires shots

MEMPHIS, TN- (WMC-TV) - A 37-year-old man has been charged after he allegedly ordered his pit-bull to chase a middle school student and then fired shots at the boy as he tried to hide.

Before the 15-year-old Woodstock Middle School student could make it to class Thursday morning he was running for his life through this neighborhood.

His alleged attacker 37 year old Christophe Gray.

The victim was waiting for the school bus when he was approached by the suspect who asked the kid if he was the person who had robbed him earlier.

The victim told the suspect he wasn't the person who had robbed him the day before, but the sheriff's office said Gray ordered his pit bull to attack the teen.

As the 15-year-old ran away, the suspect is also said to have shot at him. The boy wasn't injured and was able to get away by hiding behind a house.

Police: Victim tracks down Memphis TV thieves

MEMPHIS, TN- (WMC-TV) – Two accused TV thieves are behind bars after the Memphis woman they allegedly stole from tracked down her stuff.

The burglary was an epic fail for two reasons. First, here was a determined victim with a lot of friends. Second, the dolly the accused crooks used was a dead giveaway.

The flat screen TV vanished from a house on Springdale.

The woman who owns the TV found no shortage of eyewitnesses because of an odd getaway choice made by the accused thieves.

Her TV wasn't the only thing stolen. Her mover's dolly had disappeared too. In fact, witnesses say they saw the men put the TV on the dolly and roll it straight down Springdale Street.

When the owner stopped inside King's Drive-In Grocery just a few doors down and relayed her story, the store's owner told her about the guy he'd seen earlier that day.

Copper “belt” connects suspect to scrap metal theft

Copper “belt” connects suspect to scrap metal theft

Police say a strange belt helped connect a man to a copper theft Wednesday night.

The owner of Iskiwitz Metals was at home watching a live stream of his company’s surveillance video when he spotted a man breaking into the business just before 9:30 p.m. The man called police and gave a description of the man he saw on the surveillance video.

Officers arrived on the scene and spotted Cedric Woolsey carrying a large duffle bag. Police say Woolsey ran away when he saw them and threw the bag away before hiding in a shed at a vacant home.

When they finally caught up with him, officers say Woolsey was using copper wire taken from Iskiwitz Metals as a belt. Investigators were also able to retrieve the duffel bag which was stuffed with more than 60 pounds of scrap copper, according to court records.
