I cannot tell a lie, George Washington arrested in Memphis

(WMC-TV) – George Washington, the United States’ first president, famously chopped down a cherry tree but admitted it, because he couldn’t tell a lie. However, Memphis police say another George Washington isn’t nearly as honest.

An anonymous caller told police two men were burglarizing a home in the 2200 block of Norman Tuesday morning.

Officers say they made the scene and spotted George Washington standing in the home’s backyard next to a Dodge Durango loaded with stolen items.

Another man, Jonas Whitelow, allegedly walked out of the home, according to police.

Investigators say the men broke into the home and stole an array of items, including a furnace, air conditioner, bed rails and a foot tub.

Both men have been charged with aggravated burglary and theft.
