Two charged after riding mower stolen from store

(WMC-TV) – Two Memphis men were charged after investigators say they stole a riding lawnmower from a big box store Tuesday.

Workers at Home Depot, 3469 Riverdale, reported that someone stole a $3,000 Toro riding mower on May 15.

Shortly after the mower disappeared, police received a tip that it was at a home in the 3000 block of Mt. Terrace.

The homeowner, Edward Austein, allowed investigators to search his property and officers found the lawnmower in the backyard, according to court records.

Austein and another man at the home, Jeffrey Churchman, were charged theft.

Police haven’t said how the men were allegedly able to steal the lawnmower from the store.
