Frayser man shot while children played nearby

(WMC-TV) - An argument over a car sale ended when a man was shot on the street outside his home as children played in the front yard, according to police.

Jeremy "Poo" Morris had been on the run since March when he fired the shot that sent Robert Sutton to the hospital in critical condition, officers said.

Morris was finally arrested Thursday and charged with attempted second degree murder and aggravated assault.

Sutton bought a Cadillac from Morris, but police say the accused gunman decided he wanted more money for the car than the two had previously agreed to.

Jeremy Morris and another man, Robert Morris, Jr., went to Sutton's home in the 3000 block of Terrace, and demanded he give them the extra money, according to court records. However, Sutton objected and said he would give the car back in exchange for the return of his money.

Jeremy Morris took the tile and then aimed a pistol at Sutton, police said.

At the same time, one of Sutton's relatives told Morris to put the gun away because children were playing in the front yard. That's when police say Morris fired a single shot that struck Sutton in the cheek.

Jeremy Morris and Robert Morris, Jr., escaped from the scene and Sutton was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
