Suspect claims he was selling drugs to couple, not robbing them

(WMC-TV) - A robbery suspect's recent claim that he wasn't guilty of that crime, and had instead been conducting a drug deal, didn't help spring him from jail, according to court records.

Investigators say Michael Walton asked his victims for a ride around 10:45 p.m. on August 23. The victims told police that Walton pulled a pistol on them as they drove and demanded their money.

In all, Walton allegedly took $800 from the couple and escaped on foot near Farmville Road.

However, one of Walton's alleged victims didn't have a hard time identifying him to police. The pair went to Treadwell High School together, according to court records.

When Walton was questioned about the robbery, police say he claimed to be conducting a drug deal with the couple and never robbed them.

Despite his claims, police charged Walton with aggravated robbery. He isn't currently facing any narcotics charges.
