Woman beaten to death, found in backseat of car
News

(WMC-TV) - Friends and family members are praying for a suspect to be caught in the weekend murder of a Memphis woman.

Friday, Ivory Carmichael prepared to attend her best friend's funeral.

"It's a nightmare," she said. "It's very tragic. It's just, unbelievable is the only word that I can come up."

Marquita Adams was found dead just before 4:00 a.m. Sunday in the 1200 block of Empire. The 24 year old's body was laying in the back seat of a green Ford Escort parked on the street, and she appeared to have been beaten to death.

Family members say Adams attacker beat her at another location, and drove her to another neighborhood, where she was left to die.

"She was a good person...just so positive and full of life," Carmichael said.

Adams was a Hilton Hotel employee, and a Raleigh Egypt High School graduate, who attended Southwest Community College and was raising two young children.

"She always wore a smile on her face," Carmichael said. "Always had positive things to say about people."

Investigators say Adams' killer is still on the loose, and she could have been killed by someone she knew.  But police aren't releasing any suspect information for now, and loved ones aren't able to elaborate for fear of jeopardizing the investigation.  But they want whoever it is off the streets and behind bars.
