You’ll be seeing more cyclists than usual in north Shelby County for the Liz LaVelle Charity Bike Ride starting at 10 o’clock on Saturday morning, August 17, 2013. Learn event details here: http://lizlavelle.racesonline.com/.
The ride celebrates the life of a young woman who had a passion for helping children who lack the kind of loving home where she grew up. “She was truly concerned about the children who didn’t have parents, didn’t have a family,” said Dr. David LaVelle, Liz’s father, an orthopedic surgeon at Campbell Clinic. Liz was killed in a tragic automobile accident in July 2010 but her legacy lives on through the ride that benefits AGAPE, the charity that helped Liz’s family provide regular foster care for three children.
Liz, the youngest of the three LaVelle children, convinced her parents to start fostering a pair of siblings on weekends.
