Parents focus of MCS workshops

(WMC-TV) – Memphis City Schools is in the business of educating the city’s children, but the district will turn its attention to adults this weekend.

MCS will host its annual Exceptional Children Parent Summit on May 19 at 2 p.m. at Colonial Middle School.

MCS cafeterias now serving healthier meals

(WMC-TV) – A 13-minute YouTube video is highlighting some positive changes going on in cafeterias across Memphis schools.

The video was produced by a division of the American Egg Board, a group responsible for marketing eggs.

The video shows how Tony Geraci, director of Memphis City Schools’ Child Nutrition Services, has introduced fresh produce into the diet of the district’s 100,000 students.

Urban schools, community celebrate graduates

(WMC-TV) – Seniors from five Memphis high schools will be honored during a special ceremony at Breath of Life Christian Center Thursday night.

Students from Craigmont, Frayser, Kingsbury, Raleigh Egypt and Trezevant High Schools will be celebrated during the program which begins tonight at 6:30.

G.R.A.S.S.Y. provides students career training

The Gang Reduction Assistance for Saving Society’s Youth (G.R.A.S.S.Y) Program has partnered with the city of Memphis, West TN Construction and Building Trade Council to offer career training for at-risk youth.

Utilizing the Multi-Core Curriculum, an innovative pre-apprenticeship curriculum developed by the AFL-CIO’s Building and Construction Trades Department, the career-training program is designed to provide a nationally recognized credential to youth seeking entry into registered joint apprenticeship and training programs.

Keep reading because Shawn Carter, better known as Jay-Z, wants to offer a bit of his wealth to young people who generally have zero chance when it comes to college scholarships.

Jay-Z's foundation offers help to select young people who want to improve their education and make their own contributions to the community.

Douglass students honored by Sierra Club

Students from Douglass High School will be honored tonight for their efforts to help their community go green.

The students will be honored by the Sierra Club Environmental Justice Program during the Earth Day 2012 Youth Banquet tonight at Lindenwood Christian Church.
