Parents of Memphis City School students hold demonstration
Parents of Memphis City School students held a demonstration Saturday in protest of the state taking over their school.
Treadwell Elementary is on the list of schools that could be transferred into Tennessee's Achievement School District or ASD.
Parents said a state takeover would mean losing invaluable programs already in place at the school.
"We've already started a petition because we're opposed to this happening. We feel it's in the best of us as parents and the community that it stay a Memphis City School because Treadwell is the only dual language Immersion program in the state of Tennessee," said parent Sheena Clark.
The Achievement School District will assume control of at least ten Memphis City schools by next fall.
Students will continue to attend classes at their current facility.
