Memphis Police are looking for a man who dragged an officer with his car overnight.

Police were investigating a call early Sunday morning about Irvin Guy who is accused of taking a woman's purse and leaving her home.

Officers were parked in front of 1906 Willow Wood taking the theft report when Guy drove up in a 1997 green Nissan Maxima.

Then officers approached Guy while he was seated inside of his running vehicle. One officer went to the drivers' side of the Nissan and asked him to exit the vehicle.

Guy opened the drivers' side door as if he was going to get out. An officer attempted to place the suspect under arrest, but he refused.

Officers then attempted to remove the suspect from his vehicle, at which time Guy put the car in reverse

He then backed up from the location at a high rate of speed with one officer being trapped between the drivers' side door and the frame.

Guy continued to back his vehicle up with the officer holding on to the vehicle door to keep from being seriously injured.

The vehicle struck several fixed items which threw the officer from the car to the concrete sidewalk.

The suspect continued north where he bailed from his vehicle in front of 929 Willow Wood, and ran into a wooded area.

The suspect is 27, and has five active misdemeanor warrants.

The police officer was injured and has been released from the hospital.
